Academics

Saint Philip School is proud to report that 96% of our students scored at or above benchmark on the STAR Math assessment and 88% of our students scored at or above benchmark in STAR Reading assessments this year! These gains are a direct result of the more differentiated and personalized learning approach that has been adopted here at SPS over the last several years.

The course of study of Saint Philip School follows the guidelines of the Roman Catholic Church, the Diocese of Providence, and the State of Rhode Island. Our educational mission is based on the Christian principle, “to teach as Jesus did” – with love, concern, dedication, and understanding. This mission provides for a full range of academic, physical, spiritual, and creative opportunities.

Saint Philip School’s curriculum includes:

  • A fully integrated religion/family life program
  • Reading
  • Language arts
  • Math
  • Science
  • Social studies
  • Art
  • Foreign language
  • Health
  • Library
  • Physical education
  • Music
  • Technology

In order to support the individual needs and strengths of all students, the school also offers the services of:

  • A reading support teacher
  • A full time Nurse

A ‘Buddy Program’ which pairs middle school students with students in grades K-2 helps to foster student relationships and offers a chance for older students to assist younger ones with special projects and programs.

Service to others is a vital component of Catholic educational tradition. Students are encouraged to make a difference in their world by channeling their energies and efforts in service to others.  These opportunities for service are integrally incorporated within our academic day and curriculum.
